    Product Elements : Plain

    Product Style : Casual Style

he Boss 1865 is inspired by the legendary Boss of the Plains, the very first western-style hat created by John B. Stetson and often called the first American cowboy hat. Its archival profile features a 4” raw edge brim and a commanding 7” open crown that is intended to be creased by hand—just as early cowboys and ranchers personalized their hats on the frontier. Handcrafted in the U.S.A. from our proprietary 6X quality fur felt blend, The Boss 1865 has a substantial feel designed to hold its shape come rain or shine. It’s finished, like the original Boss of the Plains, with a wide grosgrain band.

The 160th Anniversary Collection celebrates John B. Stetson’s founding of his namesake company in 1865 and embodies his original commitment to quality and craftsmanship. Each limited edition hat is marked by a signature Five Dollar gold coin emblem—a nod to the price paid for the first Stetson ever sold, by John B. Stetson to a passing bullwhacker in the Colorado Rockies in the early 1860s—as well as a “160” deluxe satin liner and custom leather sweatband.

NOTE: If your size is sold out, we will be receiving a small restock of this limited edition in the coming weeks. Sign up to be notified.

      Since 1865

      True Heritage

Our story begins in the 1860s, when John B. Stetson was prospecting for gold in the Colorado Rockies and, struck by a sudden rainstorm, quickly fashioned a felt hat for protection. The modern cowboy hat was born, and more than a century and a half later, John B.’s pioneering legacy and commitment to quality live on in everything we make.

      Crafted to last

      Legendary Quality

From start to finish, our signature hats are made by hand in Texas, using only the finest materials and time-tested techniques, often utilizing the same machinery we’ve been using for decades. The result? The world’s most legendary hats, designed for the long haul and crafted to be passed on from one generation to the next.

      Worn the world over

      Singular Style

Our hats are iconic, and yet, each is truly unique—because no two Stetsons are ever worn the same way. Put one on, and you’re joining a community of true individuals unified in their appreciation of enduring quality and style that transcends trend.
